Walking your dog

Running and playing in the yard is 1 way to bond and exercise your dog. Especially when you incorporate obedience while you’re out there. East Coast Academy of Dog Training believes that walking is a better way to bond and exercise.

One major reason you may not be walking your dog is that he or she pulls and lunges.

The walk lesson begins inside. Teach your puppy/dog to follow beside you in the house: Keep your hands up so he is looking up at you and use a consistent phrase to call her attention. Randomly reinforce her/him next to you and add a phrase like “walk with me” AS the reinforcement is given. The leash is applied to the lesson after the puppy follows along pretty well, (that won’t take long). The leash is held from left to right or right to left (client’s choice). The amount of slack in the leash is enough so that the clip of the leash is laying down. The goal is to maintain slack. When your puppy/dog doesn’t feel you, He/She must look and listen for you.

It's difficult to teach the walk lesson here in this one blog, but we do the lessons together at your location inside, outside, and out in public settings. East Coast Academy services the Baltimore metropolitan region: Anne Arundel county, Baltimore city, Baltimore county, Carroll county, Howard county and Harford county.
